Innovative care bed created at KTU’s Startup Space gained international acclaim: the innovation has been developed at one of the best business accelerators in the world Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship&Technology (CET) at Berkeley University of California for a month. The innovative care bed created by the KTU graduates’ company Alovita can prevent complications and possible death from bedsores to thousands of patients.
One of the main goals of the visit was to get knowledge on the US market and its possibilities and to introduce Alovita’s innovative ideas. The representatives of the company were met and mentored by CET’s CEO Ken Singer, who is a frequent guest at KTU.
During the visit Alovita’s managers Vaidas Talačka and Andrius Darulis introduced multifunctional bed with sideway tilting function to medical professionals from across the globe. Young entrepreneurs had discussed various technological and medical aspects with the best engineers from medical and other fields, who shared their knowledge on state-of-the-art technological solutions and matrass production innovations.
Lithuanian entrepreneurs took part at UC Berkeley mentorship programme, which aims to provide knowledge and skills on business development, on staying among leaders in highly competitive environment. The mentors were very willing to share their know-how on how the accelerator works, and they introduced Talačka and Darulis to potential investors.
Lithuanians were impressed by the collaboration between UC Berkeley and San Francisco University of California School of Medicine. The two universities have a common space for meetings and discussion of innovations.
“In Lithuania we do not have space or possibilities where the companies could meet medical professionals and discuss all the issues. We really appreciated this possibility”, said head of KTU’s Startup Space Liutauras Palaitis.
“Our company had the opportunity to introduce the care bed, to discuss the innovation with the experts, which are the top professionals of the field and to gain more knowledge on the most up-to-date medical equipment, technologies for prevention of bedsores related diseases. This was an exceptional opportunity to meet the leaders in the global market, who, actually, induce the progress of the world”, said Talačka.
The authors of the innovation are convinced that the month at UC Berkeley’s business accelerator was useful not only in terms of experience, but it also inspired new ideas for product development.
Lithuanian entrepreneurs’ visit to CET was funded through Inoveks project, undertaken by Lithuanian Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA) and partners.
