Night Basketball Returns to Žalgiris Arena with New Street Culture Highlights

Important | 2026-06-17

Night Basketball (Naktinis Krepšinis) – Lithuania’s leading street culture festival, now in its 22nd year – is making a comeback to Kaunas on 20 June. This year, the event will take place in the car park of Žalgiris Arena and will invite everyone to celebrate street culture together. Street culture fans can also look forward to a new highlight in the programme – rollerblading performances.

The ‘Night Basketball’ festival is organised by the student union of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Design at Kaunas University of Technology. The project is supported by Kaunas City Council. The event’s media partner is LRT.

Event coordinator Rokas Pečiulis, for whom street culture and basketball have been an integral part of life since childhood, says that this year’s Night Basketball vision is to return to its roots: authentic, time-tested hip-hop and genuine street culture, from which the festival – now a tradition – first began.

“We don’t want this event to be just another date on the calendar. We aim to bring the community together so that everyone who comes feels at home and welcome,” says Pečiulis.

Night Basketball has long since outgrown the confines of a simple tournament. Pečiulis adds that today it is a place where the whole of street culture pulses to a single beat, and where the street basketball, skateboarding, scooter, BMX and rollerblading communities come together in one space.

“Right next door, street dance battles are in full swing, graffiti art is being created, and at night, authentic hip-hop brings it all together – that’s what this event is all about,” explains Pečiulis.

This year’s Night Basketball programme features 3×3 basketball, Slam Dunk, street dance and extreme sports competitions – skateboarding, rollerblading, scooters and BMX bikes. Street art is an integral part of hip-hop culture – visitors can experience it in the graffiti zone.

The highlight of the festival is the Green Stand 3×3 basketball tournament, divided into three different age groups: under 16s (U16), 16–18-year-olds (U18) and 18 and over (N18). The prize winners will share a total of 2,000 euros. This year’s programme also includes the Slam Dunk Powered by KTU tournament, during which basketball players will showcase their dunking skills.

For fans of street sports, there will be Skate, BMX, Roller & Scooter tournaments, where participants will get their adrenaline pumping with breathtaking tricks off the ramps. Skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes are already a tradition at the event, but roller skates are a new addition this year.

The crowd will be fired up by a street dance competition, culminating in the 7 to Smoke final. Experts in each dance style will judge performances – we invite both amateurs and professionals to take part.

The festival will culminate in a concert featuring Lithuanian hip-hop legends – Despotin Fam, Erkė, Mad Money, Micro One, Speechy, Empaya and Grjas.

During the event, visitors will be able to relax in the chill-out area and enjoy the food and drinks zone.
