Hollister Incorporated, a US-based global manufacturer of medical devices and equipment has started building of the new production site in Kaunas. The celebratory event of the opening of the building site, took place on Wednesday, 8 November. It is planned that the new Hollister Incorporated production site will be finished in 2019, 15min.lt informs.
The Company’s planned investment is approximately EUR 50 million with around 300 new jobs to be created over the next several years.
“We have decided to develop this project in Lithuania after thorough examination of all circumstances. This investment project is of strategic importance to our company and seeing the support we received from the Lithuanian government, business leaders and our business partners, as well as Kaunas city and Kaunas region municipalities, I am sure that this was the right decision”, said George Maliekel, the President and the General Manager of Hollister Incorporated.
Jurgita Šiugždinienė, Acting Rector of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) took part in the event, alongside Kaunas City Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis, Kaunas Region City Mayor Valerijus Makūnas, investment agency Invest Lithuania General Director Mantas Katinas, government officials and other representatives of state and business.
For international companies, such as Hollister Incorporated, the main criteria for choosing the location for development of their business often is the qualification of the local people and the general culture in the region. The ability of higher education institutions to provide the companies with needed professionals is also very important. Therefore, Hollister Incorporated is planning to cooperate with KTU and Lithuanian University of Life Sciences, and other institutions in Lithuania.
“Our new production site will not be a factory; therefore, we are looking for highly qualified staff. Are we planning to invest into universities, which could prepare the much needed professionals for us? In the future, probably yes. We have already started to discuss this with KTU”, said Mr Maliekel.
According to him, Kaunas was the only choice in Lithuania for the new site. In Europe, Hollister has production sites only in Denmark and Ireland.
