Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) remains the sought-after partner for innovation-thirsty businesses – in recent competitions for support of science-business projects, the University participates along the well-established companies as their main R&D partner.

Out of 137 applications received by Lithuanian Business Support Agency (LBSA) in the “Intelektas. Bendri mokslo-verslo projektai” (Eng. Intellect. Common science-business projects) competition, 10 were submitted together with KTU. The joint value of the projects is around 16.5 million EUR (KTU share of this budget is 1.25 million EUR).

2 out of 4 applications for the competition “Intelektas LT-2” (Eng. Intellect LT-2) were submitted with KTU. The joint value of these projects is almost 14.3 million EUR and KTU budget comprises more than 1.4 million EUR.

Both latter projects will be carried out by well-established companies. Bitė Lietuva together with KTU Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is creating intellectual self learning network platform, and Axioma Metering is developing new generation ultrasonic heat and water meters together with KTU Health Telematics Science Institute. If the applications will successfully pass the competition, the projects will be implemented and KTU researchers will be rewarded for intellectual property licencing or selling it to the project partners.

“It is great that KTU is showing stable interest of collaborating with business and industry, however, the best news is that our University remains an attractive partner for creating and implementing innovations in business”, says Vilma Karoblienė, Head of Research and Innovation Competence Centre.

The LBSA instruments are established in order to encourage companies to invest into research and development, which would lead to development of innovative products or services. From the very beginning, KTU is an active participant of the LBSA competitions as a partner of business and industry.
