Earlier this week national rankings established by the magazine “Reitingai” (Eng. Rankings) have been announced. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is the second best university in Lithuania, falling just several points behind Vilnius University (VU). High school KTU Gimnazija is the second best in Lithuania.

This year KTU was evaluated by 56,82 points, which is by 2 points higher than the last year.

In the same manner as in previous years, most universities were evaluated not by absolute, but by relative definitions, i.e. – assigned to one student, one representative of academic staff, one administrative staff member, one user, etc. According to the organisers of the rankings, such a methodology creates equal conditions for all the higher education system members.

The universities were ranked according to 65 different criteria, which fall into 7 larger categories:

  • Activities in research, arts and sports – 25 points
  • Current and prospective academic staff – 8 points
  • Additional value created by alumni and evaluation by employers – 20 points
  • International competitiveness – 15 points
  • Students and studies – 18 points
  • Students and study environment – 4 points
  • Student opinion – 10 points

The high schools were evaluated by the results of the school leaving exams of the 2016’s class. The exams’ subjects taken into consideration were: Lithuanian language and literature, history, English, information technologies, physics, chemistry, biology and geography.
