Candidates for the position of KTU Rector will present their visions of the University’s future to the community

On 28 April at 12 AM an Open Council meeting will be held in the hall of the 2nd floor of the III University’s building (Laisvės av. 13), where the KTU community will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the three candidates running for the KTU Rector’s position and their vision of how KTU should develop in the next five years. 

For those who wish to attend this meeting in person, registration will be required. Registration details will be announced in a separate statement in the KTU newsletter and on the University’s website on Wednesday, April 19.

Those who are unable to attend, (or didn’t register) will have the option to watch the meeting live online. It will be translated into English, the streaming link will be shared at a later date.

Back on March 15, The Council of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) approved all 3 candidates who submitted their applications to run for the position of the KTU Rector. The candidates are Lithuanian citizens living in Lithuania and abroad (listed here in alphabetical order):

  1. Edmund Paul Saliklis, professor at California Polytechnic University, PhD of Civil Engineering;
  2. Renata Urbonė, PhD in Social Sciences, Management and Administration, co-owner of firm Esperonus;
  3. Eugenijus Valatka, professor, PhD of Chemical Engineering, Rector of Kaunas University of Technology.

The next step in the election of the KTU Rector after the Open Council meeting will be the Closed Council meeting on 16 May, at 2 PM, during which the KTU Council will elect the Rector of the University.

The public and international competition for the position of KTU Rector was launched by the University Council on 9 January 2023, in accordance with the Law on Science and Studies of the Republic of Lithuania and the Statute of KTU.
