The Stamp Featuring the Satellite LitSat-1 Created at KTU Has Been Issued Last Week

Saturday 20 September a new postal stamp featuring two Lithuanian satellites was issued. The stamp designed by the artist Evelina Paukštytė features both Lithuanian satellites: LitSat-1, created at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and Lituanica SAT-1.

Saturday 20 September a new postal stamp featuring two Lithuanian satellites was issued. The stamp designed by the artist Evelina Paukštytė features both Lithuanian satellites: LitSat-1, created at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and Lituanica SAT-1.

Along with the stamp, a booklet in the edition of 3000 copies and two first day covers have also been released. The new stamp has a nominal value of LTL 2.90 (EUR 0.84).

In the six months spent in space the satellite LitSat-1 collected information about communication systems, tested FM transmitters the signal of which was received by radio fans in more than 20 countries.

Since the first active contact with the satellite in February, LitSat-1 spent 1 962 hours 30 minutes in space, almost 82 days in total. During that time it circled round the Earth 1,303 times and broadcasted the message of the Lithuanian nation ‘Lithuania loves freedom’ for 1.3 million times.

Launching of the satellites was the very first step in Lithuanian special journey. The next big mission will be piezoreaction equipment testing in space in 2015.
