Today’s diverse job market offers development, creativity and growth opportunities. On October 23, the largest career planning event in the Baltics – KTU WANTed Career Days 2024 – will invite Lithuanian and international professionals from more than 120 companies to share their insights about diversity in the workplace. The 20th Career Days will take place at Kaunas Žalgiris Arena.
Choosing Growing Diversity as the main theme of KTU WANTed Career Days 2024 was inspired by the everyday experiences of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and the companies with which the university actively cooperates. Demographic, social and economic changes increase diversity in society and the job market.
This year, the main partners of the KTU Career Days are Continental Lietuva, LTG Group and Teltonika. Accenture Baltics, Centric IT Solutions, Festo Lietuva, FORVIA HELLA, Hollister Lietuva, Ignitis Group, MARS LIETUVA, Litgrid, Rocket Software, Vinted are also supporting the event.
Every year, KTU WANTed Career Days attracts about 10,000 participants – high school and university students and recent graduates – and around 1,000 organisations. The possibility of face-to-face meetings gives companies more effective access to motivated young professionals, for whom the event can become a launchpad to their successful careers.
“The largest career planning event in the Baltics offers several different spaces and activities for visitors: contacts exchange in the exhibition space, innovations presentation and interactive activities in the Inspiration Space, and the Make Your CV WANTED zone, where career professionals will provide career planning advice,” says Skučienė.
Diversity helps overcome challenges and foster innovation
Growing diversity means not only being able to accept and overcome demographic, cultural or social differences in the workplace but also incorporating a variety of technological tools into work processes.
According to Dr Rimantė Sedziniauskienė, Head of the Partnerships Development Department at the National Innovation and Business Centre (NIVC) of KTU, both aspects are very important when it comes to the development and growth of companies.
In addition, combining different perspectives and experiences allows for a more effective management of challenges in the business environment.
“The key is for managers to be able to form teams and allocate tasks appropriately, considering the differences, strengths and thinking styles of their employees. For example, a team with employees with strong leadership skills, creative abilities or analytical thinking may achieve better results than a team where all the members have the same or similar characteristics,” Dr Sedziniauskienė notes.
Career planning support goes beyond a single event
Traditionally, KTU Career Days host the WANTed Talks experience-sharing conference. During this event, companies will share their stories on the topic of growing diversity. As KTU is one of the largest employers in Kaunas and diversity and inclusion have been a part of the university’s everyday life for some time now, KTU’s Vice-Rector for Community Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr Evelina Meilienė, will share how diversity is developed at the university. Also, the guest speaker Silvester Belt will reveal his unique success story. The conference will be hosted by Indrė Kavaliauskaitė, TV presenter and web content creator.
To help students perform better in interviews with company representatives, KTU is organising a training week with career planning lectures and interactive seminars aimed at improving professional skills and strategic thinking.
“The University pays special attention to career planning and observing job market trends, prepares articles, advice, and videos – all of this is done to provide young people studying at KTU with as many opportunities and tools as possible to become professionals in their field who can compete in the dynamic employment landscape,” says Skučienė.
