Design Week is the major design festival in Lithuania, first organised in 2006. In the first week of May six Lithuanian cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Telšiai and Anykščiai are joining the design fest, which invites citizens and city guests to get to know local and overseas design tendencies.
The main Kaunas events of Design Week 2017 will take place at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) premises, in one of the most prominent Kaunas buildings from interwar period – previous company’s Pienocentras building (55 Laisvės Avenue), next to the fountain. The building is the previous home of KTU’s School of Economy and Business.
“One of our missions is to educate and in a way develop the taste and understanding of design in the society, among users of everyday things”, says Rugilė Raudytė, KTU industrial design student, the curator of this year’s Kaunas events of the Festival.
This year, in Kaunas the visitors will be able to experience conceptual smart platforms of project design, will get to know the final projects of the interior design students. The rooms will expose interactive cement exhibition and silent things from everyday life – strange and familiar at the same time. Serious topics, such as identity, will be conveyed through art installations, sensing rooms, graphic art and other works by artists from Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
