The largest in the world social interface for metal recyclers, Metalface, is being developed in Lithuania, Kaunas. Established by the Dutch company Present Connection, the product is being mainly created by Lithuanian IT specialists, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) graduates. Metalface, a specialised social network for metal recyclers, which provides market news and up-to-date metal scrap prices, has more than 20 thousand users – companies from around the world.

Social networks, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or Twitter have become an inseparable part of our life, influencing it in various, often, unimaginable ways. Next to the well-established names the new social networks, focused on more specialised audience, appear. Metalface, the largest social network for metal recyclers is one of the latter.

“It’s basically Facebook for metal recyclers”, says Milda Gaulienė, communications and marketing manager for Metalface. The aim of Metalface is to connect metal recyclers from all over the world, to provide them with the real-time market news, such as metal scrap prices, and information on metal recyclers around the world.

The software programming for Metalface is being made by IT company Present Connection. Over 90 % of this Dutch company’s branch in Kaunas staff are KTU graduates.

“It is very important to understand the needs of the users in order to deliver them the maximum user-friendly product. This is our main aim while creating the largest social network for metal recyclers”, says Tadas Valaitis, KTU alumni, Metalface product owner.

Established several years ago, rapidly growing Metalface community consists of more than 20,000 companies and almost 5,000 individual users around the globe. On the platform they can find the contacts of the companies who sell and buy metal scrap, to network and to discuss collaboration possibilities.

The information feed for Metalface users is generated from various media sources: they can get the latest updates on the market news, on metal scrap prices and be informed on their changes instantly. According to the developers of the product, in the future the platform will allow its users to make real business contracts.

“It’s true that there are a lot of challenges, but we are rewarded by our customers’ trust, and the competences of our team, which is highly motivated to achieve the goals”, says Valaitis.

Metalface is available online and on apps for Adroid and iOS systems.
