Thakzhan Inthirarajah, or, simply, Takko from Germany, who spent last semester studying industrial technologies management at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), says that he chose Lithuania for an adventure. Of course, the semester gave him so much more.
“During the five months I learned so many things, such as cooking, programming and video editing. Things I wouldn’t have learned, if I had spent those five months at home”, says Takko, who, encouraged by his friends, had even set up a personal channel on YouTube.
Takko says that Lithuania is not well known among his friends at home, and that was one of the main reasons to choose studies in Kaunas: “I wanted Adventure. While on adventure, you can feel so alive”.
Life in the dormitory, where you not only get to know people from around the globe, but can also try their cuisine, travelling and having fun together with his new found friends were the highlights of Takko’s semester at KTU.
Many students are afraid to go for an exchange in a different country, especially if they do not know the language. Takko has an answer: “What do you do, if there is a language barrier? You have two options. Either you decide to learn their language, or you use your arms and legs combined with your amazing facial expressions and the few Lithuanian words you know, and you try to tell the shop assistant that you’re looking for a 2m bed sheet”.
He encourages everybody to try out study exchange, despite inhibitions. Travelling is fun, says Takko, and he is right.
