Expanding Collaboration Between KTU and Universities in Beijing

Important | 2017-03-10

A delegation from Beijing Municipal Educational Commission institutions visited KTU earlier this week. The main aim of the visit was to discuss possibilities of expanding the existing collaboration between KTU and Beijing municipality universities.

The head of the delegation Mr Zheng Dehnwen, Director of Beijing Municipal Educational Commission, reminded that the Chinese Government scholarships are available both for Lithuanian teachers and students.

More than 40 Lithuanians currently are studying in 90 Beijing universities. One of them is Ovidijus Krivas, KTU undergraduate, who chose Beijing Institute of Technology – one of the strongest technical universities in China – for his master’s studies.

Beijing itself has a dedicated foundation for supporting the mobility of incoming students and teachers. This is of particular benefit to KTU as this facilitates making collaboration agreements with Peking University and Beijing Institute of Technology, which are of the most reputable higher education institutions in China.

Cooperation Plans Discussed

During the meeting with Beijing delegation Jurgita Šiugždinienė, the Vice-Rector for studies at KTU was talking about main priorities of the University: internationality, interdisciplinarity, technology transfer, attracting talents and sustainability.

“Closer cooperation with Chinese universities is in line with our overall activities and goals. Possibility to study Chinese as a second foreign language, to invite teachers from the leading Beijing universities is just a fraction of what we can achieve together. Through study exchange our students could have a possibility to see a different culture, to get acquainted to the different business and study environment”, said Šiugždinienė.

Edita Gimžauskienė, the Dean of KTU School of Economics and Business and Xu Fang, the Vice-Rector of Capital University of Economics and Business discussed possible collaboration schemes between the universities: from staff and student exchange to joint study programmes. Leonas Balaševišius, Head of International PhD School was interested in doctoral education in China and the mobility possibilities of PhD students.

Director Zheng Dengwen, Vice-Rector Xu Fang together with Beijing Municipal Finance Bureau Deputy Director-General Wang Gang, Education Committee of Haiian District Beijing Director Yin Lijun and Beijing International Education Exchange Center Director Gu Tiangang were happy about the productive meeting with KTU representatives, congratulated the University on the 95th anniversary and invited to visit Beijing.

According to Neringa Narbutienė, Head of KTU Department for Internationalisation, the visit of Beijing delegation is of upmost importance for the University in strengthening the image of KTU and preparing for more intensive collaboration with the largest state in the world. In 2015 Ministries of Education and Science of the countries signed an agreement on mutual recognition of degrees therefore Chinese citizens who graduate from KTU may be confident: both the degree and the university itself are fully recognised in China (see information about studies at KTU in Chinese).
