Environmentalist Awarded With Nobel Prize Will Read Lectures at KTU

Anil Markandya, a world famous environmentalist, awarded with a Nobel Peace Prize will read lectures and lead a workshop at Kaunas University of Technology. Listed as one of the World’s top 50 Sustainability Thought Leaders by the University of Cambridge, Markandya has been working in this field for more than 30 years.

Professor of Princeton, Berkeley, Bath universities, Mankandya has published widely in the areas of climate change, environmental valuation, environmental policy, energy and environment, green accounting, macroeconomics and trade. He was a lead author for one of the chapters of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third Assessment Report on Climate Change (2001). He was one of the core team that drafted the IPCC 4th Assessment that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 and is now part of the team assembled to prepare the IPCC 5th Assessment.

Jūratė Pridotkienė, associated professor at KTU’s School of Economics and Business is convinced that an open lecture and the creative workshop will inform the academic community about the current environmental economy issues and inspire research: “Anil Markandya is one of the most famous environmentalists in the world. Environmental economy is an interdisciplinary research field, which combines social and physical sciences, therefore the experience shared by one of the most famous professionals in this field is of upmost importance not only to KTU’s School of Economics and Business, but also to all the academic community”, said Pridotkienė.

The open lecture “Sustainability and Green Economics: Old Wine in New Bottles” will take place 15 October at KTU’s Santaka Valley at 11am.
