Five Lithuanian universities are included in this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. KTU remains Lithuania’s highest-ranked technological university.
According to the latest THE ranking results, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) improved its performance this year in four of the five assessed areas – Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality and Industry.
In the latest THE World University Rankings, KTU maintains a strong position, ranking among the 1,001–1,200 best universities in the world.
This result is particularly significant in the context of growing international competition: this year, the ranking assessed 2,297 higher education institutions worldwide, 4 per cent more than last year.
The THE World University Rankings assess research-intensive universities across five core areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry.
The largest improvement was recorded in Industry, which covers income from collaboration with business and patents. KTU’s score increased by 7.2 points, from 46.8 to 54.0. This growth reflects the increasingly strong link between knowledge created at the university and its practical application.
This positive trend is also reflected in the results of other international rankings. In the QS World University Rankings, KTU ranks 515th worldwide for the Employer Reputation indicator.
Although THE and QS rankings use different methodologies and assess different aspects of university performance, their results provide a consistent overall picture and point to KTU’s strengthening position within the value creation ecosystem. Positive change can be seen across the entire value-creation chain – from the knowledge and technologies developed at the university and their transfer to business to the recognition and assessment of graduates’ competences in the labour market.
“Positive change can also be seen in research, with scores improving in both Research Environment and Research Quality. Growth in both areas points to the university’s strengthening research potential – both the conditions and capacity to conduct high-level research are improving, as are the quality and impact of the research outputs produced,” notes Latvelė.
Among KTU’s results, its Research Quality score stands out at 54.6 points, placing it among the university’s highest scores across the areas assessed by THE.
Improving scores in Research Quality and Industry strengthen KTU’s profile as a technological and research university. The knowledge created at the university demonstrates not only research impact, but also an increasingly close connection with business and practical application.
Growth in these areas aligns with one of KTU’s strategic priorities, which focus on producing high-level research results, applying them in practice and promoting technological progress.
