Among the awardees was Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) researcher Professor Rytis Maskeliūnas.

Maskeliūnas and his team work closely with medical professionals, conducts a wide range of research with international partners, and develops innovations, which have practical applications.

This is not the first year that Maskeliūnas has been nominated for LRT’s Award of the Year. In 2021, he was nominated together with his PhD student Modupe Odusami for a new method to detect the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. The method makes it easier to predict the onset of Alzheimer’s from brain images, as their algorithm can distinguish between pictures of the affected brain with more than 99% accuracy by analysing magnetic resonance images. This method is more efficient and accurate than those used previously.
