An Evening of Remembrance for the Defenders of Lithuanian Freedom

Important | 2016-01-11

The Evening of Remembrance with patriotic songs and viewing of the film “Mes dainuosim” (Eng. We Will Sing) by Robert Mullan for those who fought and lost their lives defending our State’s independence on 13 January 1991 will take place tomorrow.

Bonfires, hot tea, music by Vidas Bareikis and Raminta Naujanytė-Bjellė, film and meaningful conversations – Kaunas University of Technology invites the academic community and Kaunas citizens to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Day of Freedom Defenders.

“This exceptional day in Lithuanian history has been celebrated for many years in the same way. People long for untraditional solutions, we need to embed some real meaning into the celebrations of the important dates, so they can attract more people who care about their state”, said Tautvydas Baltramonaitis, Head of KTU’s Cultural Centre.

According to him, the event should be of upmost importance to young people as it provides the opportunity for them to relive the history, to understand the reasons of sacrifice of those who died for Lithuanian freedom in 1991.

“In the evening before the 13th of January, on the exact time when the crucial events took place 25 years ago, we will gather together to commemorate the Freedom Defenders and to express gratitude for our freedom”, said Baltramonaitis.

The event starts at 9pm on Tuesday 12 January at the KTU Electronics building hall (Studentų Street 50).
