Opening of the Francophone Month This Friday

Important | 2018-02-27

March traditionally is a Francophone month all over the world and Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is taking part in spreading the word about culture, cuisine, history, art and everything French to the community.

The Francophone month will start on Friday, 2 March with the free Kaunas Symphony Orchestra concert at Kaunas State Philharmonic. Later on, the marathon of French culture will invite Kaunas residents and city guests to various spaces and areas in the city – from Čiurlionis Art Museum, Kaunas National Drama Theatre, St Peter and Paul’s Basilica to the universities’ halls.

La Francophonie is an international organisation representing countries and regions where French is a lingua franca, where a significant proportion of the population are French speakers, or where there is a notable affiliation with French culture. The organisation comprises 57 member states and governments, three associate members and twenty observers (Lithuania is one of them).

In March, the residents and visitors of Kaunas will be able to get to know the culture of France, Canada, Switzerland and a handful of countries in Africa, through a vast array of events. The program includes concerts, dance performances, lectures, conferences, literature readings, film screenings, dinners, excursions and beyond.

KTU Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities will host 4 lectures, 2 documentary film screenings and the final concert. The programme is here.

The full detailed account of what is happening in Kaunas through the Francophone March you will find on Kaunastic page.
