Both KTU folk art ensemble Nemunas and the academic Choir Jaunystė were awarded with the first (highest) category among Lithuanian amateur art societies. The evaluation is being carried out by Lithuanian Folk Culture Centre.

Art societies’ level of artistry is determined by their ability to perform in different styles, genres, reflecting different periods and cultural traditions, to the expressiveness of the artistic language, to the originality of artistic interpretations, to technique, to repertoire complexity and other criteria. Results of art societies’ performances such as their selection to perform at song festivals, or becoming amateur art society laureates or nominates are also being considered. The first category is granted for the art society which received over 85 points (out of a 100) in the national competitions or reviews.

The academic Choir Jaunystė  founded in 1926 is famous in and outside of the University. Under the supervision of the choirmaster Danguolė Beinarytė the Choir was recognised as the best Lithuanian adult choir in 2014. KTU Choir Jaunystė will hold this title for four years.

Jaunystė is a regular and successful participant at song festivals, various competitions, Gaudeamus festival, Lithuanian Song Celebration, television projects.

The folk art ensemble Nemunas founded in 1949 is the biggest and one of the most active student art societies in Lithuania. All Lithuanian folk music lovers can easily find their place in the dance group, among the choir singers, or in the orchestra.

Traveling is an important part of Nemunas’ life. In more than 50 years time students not only performed in many European countries but entertained audiences in USA, Mexico, Canada, Pakistan, and Venezuela as well.

Nemunas celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2014. Four celebratory concerts were well attended by former Nemunas members and general society of Kaunas.
