Important | 2015-09-02

This year Kaunas University of Technology welcomed around 350 new international students (around 200 degree students and 150 exchange). Congratulations to all of you and welcome back to the returning ones. Good luck with all your academic endeavours and do not forget that there is more to student life than studies.

Yesterday KTU started a new academic year with a bang – a celebration took place at one of the largest venues in Lithuania, Žalgiris Arena, and attracted thousands of students and academic community.

The opening show introduced KTU’s opportunities and possibilities for the “freshers”. The University’s art societies competed for stage with one of the best Lithuanian groups SKAMP.

KTU’s Rector Petras Baršauskas addressing the new students as our future encouraged them to reach for ambitious goals and to aim to become real leaders, who have powers to change the world.

Among the celebrated speakers were Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis, and KTU graduates Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius and entrepreneur Ilja Laurs. Former President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus sent a video message to all new students.

“Your university’s graduates have significantly contributed to Lithuania’s cultural heritage and have always been active citizens and respected people. I sincerely hope that you will follow this tradition with your studies and work”, said President Adamkus.

Although today was the first day of lectures, Welcome Week activities for new students continue. Click here for the programme.
