71% of Fortune 500 companies offer mentoring programs to their employees – successful companies know that their prosperity depends on the individual achievements of every community member. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), first in Lithuania to have established a comprehensive mentorship programme, is enjoying the company of the most progressive organisations in the world. More than 600 industry professionals, researchers, students are mentoring KTU students.
The benefits of mentoring are myriad. Studies show that good mentoring can lead to greater career success, including promotions and increased opportunities. Having a mentor can also benefit to personal wellbeing – to increase self-confidence, to become more aware of one’s strengths and weaknesses, to improve communicational skills. Organisations that embrace mentoring are rewarded with higher levels of employee engagement, retention, and knowledge sharing.
“I would like to thank my career mentor for encouraging my self-confidence”, “I am thankful to my career mentor for her time, advice, good emotions and willingness to help me achieving the set goal”, “I thank all my career mentors for freeing me from boundaries that I created myself”, say KTU students.
Indeed, great thinkers like Plato or Aristotle, tech industry giants such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, visionaries like Nelson Mandela – all had mentors who helped them aim and achieve more.
At KTU, more than 600 peer, academic, career mentors and tutors are willing to assist the students who are experiencing challenges or are interested in developing their skills and competencies. All the mentors can be “booked” through Academic Information System (AIS).
Schedule a meeting with a tutor – take advantage of KTU’s mentorship programme
Do you have difficulties in understanding the materials presented during the lecture? Do you feel that you need more time to prepare for the tasks and assignments? Do you need additional counselling? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, you may need a tutor.
The tutor is your colleague, a fellow student who is proficient in certain modules and can provide consultations for other students. Three international students are working as tutors; also, the majority of tutors can provide consultations in English. At the moment, you may register for the tutors in the following modules:
Students can register for consultations in the mentorship section on AIS, where the timetable of available mentors is posted. After the registration, the student is added to MS Teams tutor consultation team channelled by the module. You need to register at least a day before the consultation; the consultations are taking place during the semester and during the exam session.
Also, during the study year, a student can choose an academic mentor who can consult on any questions related to studies, and assist those students who are willing to try their hand at research. Academic mentors are available for continuous work or for a single consultation.
All mentors can be booked on AIS. For more information, please visit https://students.ktu.edu/services/guided/.
