Important | 2024-06-25

Every summer, the International PhD Summer School organised by Kaunas University of Technology Doctoral School, brings together young researchers from different universities. This year, the week-long event attracted 29 participants from 10 different European countries.

“Participating in such events broadens your horizons and opens up new opportunities and networking possibiltiies. I am convinced that the young researchers have acquired not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that will help them become successful scientists in their field, able to effectively communicate ideas and share best practices,” says KTU Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Kęstutis Baltakys.

“This is the fourth time I have attended this event and given lectures. As always, it was a great pleasure to see enthusiastic students from different disciplines and countries actively participating in the discussions. The group was lively and full of young academics with clear ambitions. The KTU Doctoral Summer School has established itself as the standard for doctoral training. It is a must-attend event!”, said Professor Frank Witlox from Ghent University.

The participants also shared positive emotions about the KTU International Doctoral School. “Each day was very intense, focused and well-planned, and in the evenings we had more relaxed schedule. The tours were informative and interesting, the food was delicious and most of the lecturers were really experienced, interesting and incredibly knowledgeable about their craft. I particularly enjoyed the lectures by Professors Witlox and Wim Blokzijl. Their presentations were fun, engaging and extremely valuable. I hope to attend the event next year and listen to their lectures again,” said Ernestas Uzdila, a PhD student in Computer Science.

“I am very pleased that the participants of the Summer School were active both in the lectures and in the social programme, and willingly took part in all the activities organised. The PhD students were impressed by the tours in Curonian Spit and Palanga, as well as the educational activity with amber, during which each of them made a piece of jewellery to remember the event by,” said Simona Devenytė-Janauskienė, Project Manager of the Doctoral School, the organiser of the Summer School.

The 8th International Doctoral Summer School organised by Kaunas University of Technology once again proved that such events are of great importance for young researchers and contribute to their professional growth and success.

“This is the eighth year we have been organising the Summer Schools, and each time we attempt to bring together a professional team of lecturers who teach in areas that are most relevant to PhD students, while at the same time creating networking opportunities for young researchers. The Summer School welcomes PhD students of all courses, so this year’s PhD applicants will have an excellent opportunity to join the 9th KTU International PhD Summer School next year,” said Reda Žilėnaitė, Head of the KTU Doctoral School.
