Coming from the southern Indian state of Karnataka, Anitha Lakshmi Vadde Adinarayana did not choose the most obvious destination for her master’s studies. While many opt for larger, more familiar study cities, she landed in Kaunas – a compact town in Lithuania, one of the Baltic states. It turned out to be perfect for her – the two years went by faster than Anitha expected.
At Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Anitha enrolled in the Structural and Building Products Engineering Master’s programme at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Her interest in engineering started early and grew stronger over time, as she became more focused on creating meaningful, real-world structures.
“Engineering is fascinating because it brings together technical challenges and real-life applications,” she says.
Choosing a university abroad took time and careful research. Anitha says KTU stood out for its academic quality, practical approach, affordability, and the opportunities it offered to international students.
She still remembers how she felt during her first days in Lithuania: “I strongly believe in the saying – the first impression is the best impression. The moment I stepped into KTU during the Freshers’ Week, I was totally impressed with the quality of education, the cultural environment, and the kind, supportive professors and staff”.
Looking back on her studies, she highlights the strong emphasis on practical learning. This, she says, was the most valuable part of her academic experience. The only downside? “These two years passed very fast,” smiles Anitha.
Now, with her master’s degree complete, Anitha is preparing for the next step – gaining industry experience. If she chooses to return to university in the future, she already knows where she will go. “If I ever decide to pursue my doctoral studies, I’ll definitely come back to KTU,” she says.
As for her long-term plans, Anitha is open to different paths. “I want to build my career in my field,” says a fresh-out-of-KTU alumni. “I would love to continue my journey in Lithuania, but I’m also open to other countries – and of course, I’m definitely missing my hometown,” shares Anitha.
Dreaming about inspiring studies? Consider Kaunas, the most student-focused city in Lithuania. KTU offers 27 Bachelor’s and 32 Master’s programmes in English. Choose your path and apply by the end of May 2025.
