On Wednesday, 11 October the new Council of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) held its first meeting. During the meeting the new Chairman of the Council – Vice-President of SBA Group Dalius Misiūnas – has been elected.
The consideration of the resignation letter of KTU Rector Petras Baršauskas was the main point of issue of the first meeting of the new Council.
“The Rector has submitted his letter of resignation after long contemplation of the issue, and he sees the decision as the most fitting. We honour the choice of Petras Baršauskas and therefore are granting his request. Without doubt, we all acknowledge the impact the Rector has made into initiating progress in the situation of higher education system in Lithuania”, said Dalius Misiūnas.
The KTU Council is not issuing any statements regarding the accusations concerning the monography of Petras Baršauskas, considering this matter the area of authority of the institutions having relevant competencies.
Following the decision of the Council, the Rector will leave the office on 25 October. From 26 October Jurgita Šiugždinienė, current Vice-Rector for Studies will assume the position of the acting Rector of KTU.
