Immersing in culture might be very beneficial to your soul and psychological well-being, especially during stressful times, such as exam session. If you have read all the necessary textbooks, we recommend you to take a break and visit theatre. Hamlet, one of the most loved Kaunas National Drama Theatre plays, will be shown in English on Wednesday, January 16 at 2pm.
One of the most innovative Lithuanian directors Vidas Bareikis is portraying Hamlet neither as a romantic hero nor an idealist – his Hamlet is just a man seeking for truth. Hamlet’s feelings are real, ranging from love and hectic revenge to mourning, rage and desperation.
Hamlet is a part of Bareikis’ initiative “Theatre in the Theatre”, which treats theatre like a shining light that helps see what is hidden behind shadows, helps to reveal the author’s intentions, his dualistic personality, existential dilemmas and everything what happens in or outside the theatre. The viewer will be surprised by innovative scenography, technological solutions, which renders the play the feeling that all is happening here and now. Written hundreds of years before our time the play speaks directly to us, the feelings and dilemmas faced by Hamlet are as relevant today as it was in Shakespeare times.
The play will take place at the Main Hall of the National Kaunas Drama Theatre.
