During the regional finals of sustainable energy competition PowerUp! the Lithuanian finalist – the team of renewable energy professionals R-Solar. R-Solar has developed technical and economically perspective solution for photovoltaic industry, which will adapt it to the more efficient model of circular economy.
PowerUp! is the largest competition in Europe for sustainable ideas, which invites to participate start-ups from Central Europe, Baltic States and Mediterranean region. The competition is being organised by InnoEnergy the largest European clean technologies accelerator, promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and education in sustainable energy. This year it is taking place for the third time – 160 start-ups from 23 countries have participated in regional finals. 12 teams from Lithuania were participating in the regional finals, organised by InnoEnergy partner in Lithuania, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU).
“We are organising the regional event of the PowerUp! competition in order to make Lithuanian start-up ecosystem, and, especially, energy start-ups to become more visible in Europe. Also, such events provide great opportunity to get advice on the product’s prospects in global market. I was surprised by the large number of participants in Lithuania – 12 teams have applied for the competition with their innovations for energy field and new products. Knowing that energy is not among the most popular fields among Lithuanian and Baltic start-ups, this is impressive”, says Donatas Smailys, Head of KTU start-up community Start-Up Space.
Last year a team from KTU SmartChargeBox, offering fast phone-charging device, which can be fixed to any surface won the Lithuanian finals.
22 November the Lithuanian Finalist R-Solar will meet the 11 competitors from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary in the PowerUp! final in Budapest. The winner will be awarded 20 thousand euros and will be invited to join the renowned accelerator Highway® by InnoEnergy, which assists in transforming ideas into the real products.
