International Staff Weeks in the framework of Erasmus+ programme have been organised for more than 10 years in many European universities. The aim of these events is not only to invite the representatives of partnering universities to discuss the issues of internationalisation together, but also to introduce home university.
This year’s International Staff Week is the third event of this kind at KTU. As in the previous years, this year’s topic is aimed at a specific challenge, which is of great importance to all participants.
“This year’s topic was conceived more than a year ago: as the number of international students is increasing every year, and we are encouraging Lithuanian students to choose to study in English at least partly, we need to pay more attention to the development of English competencies among our teachers. This is as important for us as for the universities in other non-English speaking European countries”, says Neringa Narbutienė, Director of KTU’s Department of International Relations.
According to her, teaching in non-native language has specific challenges, which are related to one’s language skills, terminology, providing case studies and practical examples, and to multicultural audience, which has different expectations and experiences.
