This week Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė has awarded the authors of best dissertations of 2014. Among them is Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) doctor of science Paulius Pavelas Danilovas. The researcher received recognition for the thesis in the field of polymer chemistry.

“Being awarded by the President herself serves as great motivation to continue my work and as recognition that I am headed into the right direction”, said Danilovas.

The awarded young doctor of science, who is a researcher and a teacher at the KTU’s Polymer Chemistry Department, is happy to be working in a creative and inspiring University’s environment.

The Lithuanian President has awarded 8 young doctors of science whose unique research will enhance progress in Lithuanian research scene and will be practically applied in fields of medicine, biotechnologies and chemistry.

“Today we are awarding the most hardworking and creative minds of Lithuania, who will define economic and political trends for our country. Work, which is being done by our young researchers, is a guarantee for our progress. Therefore we need to continuously strengthen the quality of studies, and the science-business collaboration. By doing this we invest into Lithuanian future”, said Grybauskaitė.

The Press Office of the Presidency claims that from 2 600 PhD students in Lithuania, only one forth are taking long-term work placements abroad, and only 10 percent are working in private companies. According to the President, the researchers carry the great responsibility of creating progressive and competitive Lithuania of the future.

Grybauskaitė is convinced that the main task for Lithuanian universities is not the increased number of PhD students, but the high quality of studies, ensuring the development of knowledge and creativity, which would significantly contribute to Lithuanian and global well-being.

89 doctoral theses in science, technology, biomedicine, agriculture, humanities and social sciences were submitted for the competition.
