Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science returned to the issue of higher education reorganisation. Kaunas University of Technology supports the project proposed by the Ministry, which offers the strengthening of three Kaunas universities – Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Vytautas Magnus University (KTU, LSMU and VDU) – in the first stage of the process, with the perspective to create one internationally competitive university in Kaunas in the future.
“To formulate the University’s position, we discussed the Ministry’s project with representatives of the faculties, Council, Senate and students. We have received a number of proposals, evaluations and questions. In-depth discussion allows us to confirm once more that after evaluation of the current situation and aiming to be internationally competitive, restructuring of higher education is necessary and our University is an active participant in this process”, says Jurgita Šiugždinienė, KTU Rector Ad Interim.
By mutual agreement, the University supports the project prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science. In the official University’s position, it is emphasised that KTU has to be developed, becoming a pool of potential in the areas of technologies and physical sciences of Kaunas County.
Also, KTU is initiating the cooperation council among KTU, LSMU and VDU, that would implement specific projects for greater synergy of mutual activities, which, in turn, would enhance the international competitiveness of Kaunas universities and concentrate the resources for studies and research.
