Japanese energy and technologies corporation Hitachi renewed its collaboration agreement with Kaunas University of Technology (KTU). The agreement was signed by the company’s Vice-President Uozumi Hiroto and KTU’s Rector Petras Baršauskas earlier this month.
KTU and Hitachi will continue to collaborate in creating the nuclear energy education programme, will work on deepening skills and knowledge of current and future nuclear energy professionals. The cooperation is mutually beneficial for expanding human resources and education in nuclear energy field.
“I would like to thank you for your investment and support. This collaboration is of national importance both to educational sector and business. We admire your flexibility, thirst for innovation and dedication to educating nuclear energy professionals. It is inspiring to encounter a business organisation which has such a deep understanding of academic community”, said KTU Rector Baršauskas during the meeting.
“Technologies are our field of competence. Therefore, we are willing to expand our collaboration not only with the community of this university, but also with Lithuanian business sector. We aim to sustain strong and close ties, and are delighted to have the opportunity to extend our collaboration with KTU”, said Hitachi’s Vice-President Hiroto.
According to the agreement Hitachi will organise annual courses of nuclear engineering, and will invite KTU’s researchers to the qualification enhancement lectures for the company’s engineers. Hitachi will establish a scholarship fund for the advanced KTU students and will organise work placement opportunities in Japan.
KTU graduate Giedrė Zablackaitė is the first to receive Hitachi’s scholarship to study at Tokyo University of Technology. For two years from April 2016 she will study nuclear reactors’ safety at the university, where she will be introduced to the best Japanese nuclear energy experts.
Both KTU and Hitachi are expecting that in the future more students will participate in similar programmes and more possibilities for both Lithuanian students in Japan, and Japanese in Lithuania will open.
