Synthesis of Calcium Silicates with Intercalated Metal Ions and Their Application in Production of Alternative Cementitious Materials (METSIL)

Project no.: PP59/2002

Project description:

According to scholarly literature, in 2018 the global greenhouse gas emission reached about 50 Gt, and it still continues to grow, while the largest part (~60 %) of the greenhouse gas emitted through human activities is carbon dioxide. In fact, the cement industry accounts for approximately 7 % of global CO2 emissions. For these reasons, the cement industry and the scientific community have been looking for alternative approaches in order to reduce the harmful effects on the environment; however in order to reduce CO2 emission a new technologies for the development of environmentally friendly cementitious materials should be created and applied worldwide. Thus, the idea of this project is to synthesize calcium silicates with intercalated metal ions as well as to determine the feasibility of their application in production of environmentally friendly cementitious materials.
