Investigation of Organic Compounds Exhibiting Room Temperature Phosphorescence

Project no.: 09.3.3-LMT-K-712-16-0009

Project description:

The aim of this project is to improve the student’s scientific competences. During the project the extensive photophysical investigation of metal-free organic compounds will be performed. Thermal and morphological transitions of solid layers will be investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. This will allow to evaluate the temperature resistance of the layers of newly synthesized materials. Electrochemical stability of the synthesized compounds, HOMO and LUMO energies will be determined by cyclic voltammetry. UV spectroscopy will be used to study the optical properties of new compounds. To determine the most promising RTP materials, the excited state energy of the compounds will be determined, the kinetics of photophysical processes (photoluminescence lifetimes) will be evaluated, and the quantum yields of photoluminescence will be determined.

Project funding:

Project is funded by EU Structural Funds according to the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for the European Union Funds’ Investments priority “Development of scientific competence of researchers, other researchers, students through practical scientific activities” under Measure No. 09.3.3-LMT-K-712.

Project results:

The influence of oxygen on the properties of RTP materials will be tested by investigating the photophysical properties of compounds in air and oxygen-free environments.
