Complex assessment of multinational companies in Lithuania

Project description:

The goal of the project is to carry out a complex assessment of multinational companies (MNC) in Lithuania, covering micro and meso levels. The integrated assessment of the MNC ‘s activities will include an analysis of the MNC’s performance of the companies operating in Lithuania (micro level) and their impact on the economy of Lithuania as a host country (meso level). An assessment of the MNC’s activities in Lithuania will be based on cause and effect approach. The data needed for the study will be collected from the statistical databases and information, which will help to understand the process, causes and obstacles of the company’s value chain development process, will be collected during visits to foreign companies operating in Lithuania. The analysis of the consequences of the MNC ‘s activities in Lithuania will seek to determine the benefits to foreign companies from operating in Lithuania and the impact of such companies‘ activities on the Lithuanian economy. Assessment of the effects will include analysis of both positive and negative effects.

Project is funded by EU Structural Funds according to the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for the European Union Funds’ Investments priority “Development of scientific competence of researchers, other researchers, students through practical scientific activities” under Measure No. 09.3.3-LMT-K-712.


Project results:

At the time of the project qualitative and quantitative research will be conducted. During the qualitative research, visits to the MNC operating in Lithuania will be carried out in order to find out the peculiarities of the companies‘ activities, the reasons for their entry into Lithuania and the problems associated with operating in Lithuania. The aim of the quantitative study will be to assess the impact of MNCs on the Lithuanian economy and to identify the areas of exposure. For this purpose, data from various statistical databases will be collected and processed (EUROSTAT, Statistics Lithuania, Bloomberg L.P.). During the semester, the analysis of scientific sources will be performed, collected data from various statistical databases and from the MNC operating in Lithuania will be summarized. Collected, analyzed, systematized and summarized material will be used for writing research work, and the dissemination of research will be carried out through participation in student scientific conferences and publication of an article.
