For the fourth time, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Department for Internationalisation is organising International Staff Week “Teaching in English in Non-English Speaking University“. The seminars will take place on 24–28 April.
Teachers and administrative staff members from 24 higher education institutions from 13 different countries in Europe are expected to participate at the KTU’s Staff Week. Participants of the event will share their knowledge, will work on improving their skills, discuss on the key topic of the international week.
Some of the seminars are open to all the KTU community. It is a good opportunity to meet people from partnering universities, to make networking contacts and to share experiences with colleagues from across Europe.
“As the number of international students is increasing every year, we need to pay more attention to the development of English competencies among our teachers. This is as important for us as for the universities in other non-English speaking European countries”, says Neringa Narbutienė, Director of KTU’s Department for Internationalisation.
According to her, teaching in non-native language has specific challenges, which are related to one’s language skills, terminology, providing case studies and practical examples, and to multicultural audience, which has different expectations and experiences.
