Presidential election 2019 approaching: KTU is organising debate with the candidates

On Wednesday, 16 January at 11 am Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) hosts a meeting-discussion with the candidates to the post of the President of Republic of Lithuania. 7 candidates have agreed to participate in the debate, which will take place at KTU Santaka Valley.

“KTU is the arena where all the opinions can be expressed freely. Debates and discussions in the academic community is a great breeding ground for cultivating democracy and citizenship. By organising the meeting with Presidential candidates we provide the opportunity to our community members to address the potential President and to hear his or her honest answer to their questions. I am extremely happy that the Candidates have enthusiastically reacted to the call to participate in the debate; it clearly demonstrates their serious approach to the current situation of education in our country”, says Mantas Lapinskas, KTU Public Relations Project Manager.

During the debate “President 2019: Four Months to Decide” the Candidates will have a discussion with KTU representatives – Rytis Krušinskas, the Chairman of the Senate, Ainius Lašas, the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts, Andrius Vilkauskas, the Dean of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Design and Lukas Kijauskas, the President of the KTU Students’ Union. After the discussion, the Candidates will answer the questions of KTU community. The debate will be moderated by the journalist Rasa Tapinienė.

The Presidential Candidates who will be participating in the Debate are: Ingrida Šimonytė, Gitanas Nausėda, Arvydas Juozaitis, Aušra Maldeikienė, Naglis Puteikis, Valentinas Mazuronis, Petras Auštrevičius.

The Lithuanian Presidential Election is taking place on Sunday, May 12, 2019.
