Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) has attracted the largest number of international students among all Lithuanian institutions of higher education. 200 new international students joined KTU this year, in total the University has 460 students from other countries.

According to preliminary figures provided by Information Technology Centre of Lithuanian Ministry of Education, this autumn 1 582 international students entered higher education institutions in our country. At the moment a total of 4 618 of them are studying in Lithuania.

Lithuania is becoming more popular study choice across the world – during the last two years the number of international students grew by almost a thousand. One of the most popular majors among international students studying in Lithuania is KTU Mechanical Engineering. It has been chosen by 92 students from other countries.

Rūta Avulytė Moreira, head of KTU Department of International Relations maintains that the growing number of international students is positively influencing Lithuanian economy and its profitability is not being measured by monetary value.

‘The added value both for universities and society is being created by study programmes’ development, growing research possibilities, and developing traditions of intercultural communication and global thinking. More than 50 Lithuanian students of our university have chosen study programmes in English as they clearly perceive the benefits of this choice: there are students from 47 countries studying at KTU today and this means gaining international experience while staying at home. Plus, the most talented students are valued partners and employees for the companies, seeking innovative thinking and market expansion’, Avulytė Moreira says.
