Candidates for KTU Rector’s Position Will Meet With Academic Community

The Council of Kaunas University of Technology has approved 4 candidates (out of 6 applicants) for the University’s Rector position. The candidates, among whom are two Lithuanian citizens and two international candidates, will meet with the academic KTU’s community at an open meeting of the Council on Thursday 5 May.

The Rector is being elected by KTU Council, which has advertised the position on international level. The deadline for submission of documents was 22 April 2016. The Rector is being elected for the term of 5 years; the same person may be appointed for the position for no more than two consecutive terms. The present Rector’s Petras Baršauskas term ends on 31 May 2016.

27 April KTU Senate  after evaluating the pedagogical and scientific qualifications of the applicants and their consistency to the University’s requirements has confirmed 5 candidates. However, the Council, after evaluating the rest of the documents, has approved 4.

The candidates (listed further in alphabetical order) Petras Baršauskas, Pablo G. Martinez Lestard, Vidas Raudonis and Alexander A. Suetin will meet with the University’s academic community on Thursday 5 May 2pm at KTU’s Santaka Valley (K. Baršauskas Street 59) at an open meeting of KTU Council.

About the candidates

PETRAS BARŠAUSKAS (born in 1953) is a Lithuanian citizen. In 1986 obtained the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences at Leningrad Aviation Instrument Making Institute. In 2002 obtained Habilitated Doctor of Social Sciences degree at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. In 2004 KTU and in 2007 ISM University of Management and Economics granted the pedagogical title of Professor of Social Sciences.

Baršauskas has started his career in 1984 at KPI (predecessor of KTU). From 1991 till 1992 he was working as a project manager in Great Britain. From 1992 till 2002 he was KTU’s Vice-Rector for International Relations and Infrastructure, and from 2003 till 2011 Vice-Rector for External Relations, Vice-Rector for Research at ISM University of Management and Economics. KTU rector since 2011. Speaks fluent Lithuanian, English, Russian, can communicate in other Slavic languages.

PABLO GUSTAVO MARTINEZ LESTARD (born in 1962) is a citizen of Kingdom of Spain and of Argentina. In 1995 he obtained PhD in Environmental Science at Hokkaido University (Japan). 2003–2005 director of The United Nations University Ishikawa International Cooperation Research Centre (Japan); undertook expert counselling for sustainable urban expansion projects in Japan and other Asian countries.

Since 2005 leader of projects on sustainable production and water conservation. Lestard is a guest professor at Latin American Social Sciences Institute and Catholic University of La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Speaks fluent Spanish, Portuguese, English and Japanese.

VIDAS RAUDONIS (born in 1982) is a citizen of Lithuania. In 2010 obtained a PhD in informatics Engineering. Raudonis started his professional career as automatics engineer at a company Santaviltė. Since 2007 is employed by KTU: first as an technics engineer, lector, and presently a docent. Since 2012 is head of a company Power of Eye.

Since 2008 has been a participant or a leader of various high technology research and development projects. Fluent in Lithuanian, proficient in English and Russian, and satisfactory in German.

ALEXANDER A. SUETIN (born in 1952) is a citizen of the Russian Federation, possessing a permit of residence in Lithuania. In 1984 obtained the title of Doctor of Economical Science. 2010–2013 was a docent at SolBridge International Business School (South Korea), was carrying out international finance market research. 1991–2011 professor at Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. 2000–2008 professor at Russian State Social University.

From 1993 till 2006 Suetin was engaged in professional counselling activities, he was implementing international banking standards at the financial institutions of the Russian Federation, and was an advisor on international finance managing at various commercial banks. Speaks fluent Russian, English, German and French.
