A delegation of Azerbaijani journalists invited by the Lithuanian Education Exchanges Support Foundation were visiting Lithuania last week. The journalists who visited several Lithuanian universities were impressed by Kaunas University of Technology (KTU).
The journalists from Azerbaijan news agencies and TV stations visited the new Santaka Valley KTU Science, Technology and Business Centre which will be opened on 14 November 2014, they paid visits to KTU Startup Space and KTU Food Research and Technology Centre. The journalists met the Azerbaijani students studying at the University, and took an exclusive interview from the Vice Rector for International Relations and Development Sigitas Stanys.
‘From all that we have seen, research facilities at KTU are of the highest quality in Lithuania – the University students can study and carry out research in the state-of-the-art laboratories. The Azerbaijani students were impressed by the study quality at KTU, however, they said, lectures of mathematics here were very difficult’, the journalists commented.
The KTU students coming from Azerbaijan emphasised the practical aspect of studies, they valued the possibility to transform theory into social and technological skills.
The journalists fro Azerbaijan were impressed by the fact that the President of Azerbaijan Youth Organisation in Lithuania was a KTU student Shahsuvar Hajizada.
Neringa Narbutienė, head of the International Study Office at KTU is glad to see the University developing its connections with Azerbaijan.
‘The first two students from Azerbaijan came to study to KTU in 2010. Today we have 48 students and 10 graduates from this country. KTU representatives are invited to participate at KTU Azerbaijani graduates reunion, which will take place in Baku on Thursday 9 October. On 10–12 October the University will be introduced to Azerbaijani public in the Study Fair’, said Narbutienė.
The Republic of Azerbaijan is a country in a Caucasus region bordering with Russia in the North, Georgia and Armenia in the West and Iran in the South. The exclave of Nakhchivan is bounded by Armenia to the North and East, Iran to the South and West, while having a short border with Turkey in the Northwest. The population of Azerbaijan is 9.6 million. Azerbaijan is currently part of the European Neighborhood Policy and the Council of Europe, and is a large recipient of aid and infrastructure investment from the European Union.
