International Edition

(Based on VPAT® Version 2.5)

Name of Product: Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) website, main domain accessible at en.ktu.edu

Report Date: May 8, 2024

Product Description: Web page content

Contact Information: letstalk@junekarlove.com. Evaluators: Indre Karlove, Andzejus Ravanas

Notes: The International Edition of VPAT was selected as it includes WCAG 2.2, which is not included in the EN 301 549 Edition. As a result, the Revised Section 508 standards are not relevant and have been excluded from this Report.

Evaluation Methods Used: This conformance report is based on the results of accessibility audits conducted by June / Karlove Agency and LASS on a sample of 21 key web pages (listed below under “Evaluation Scope”). These pages were selected and agreed on by Kaunas University of Technology and June / Karlove Agency as representative of the overall accessibility and functionality of the main website of KTU.

Evaluations were done by two third-party web accessibility specialists: one blind and the other sighted.

Testing by the sighted accessibility specialists was performed using the following setups:

  • “WAVE” extension on Chrome.
  • “IBM Equal Access Accessibility Checker” extension on Mozilla.
  • “Narrator” screen reader and Chrome on Windows.
  • Exclusively using the keyboard to navigate and operate the site’s content and functionality.

Testing by the blind accessibility specialists was performed using the following setups:

  • “Jaws” and “NVDA” screen readers and Chrome on Windows.
  • “Talkback” screen reader and Chrome on Android.
  •  “VoiceOver” screen reader and Safari on iOS.

This report covers the degree of conformance for the following accessibility standard/guidelines:

Web page elements provide the necessary role, state, and value information to assistive technologies.

Exceptions:

  • The dropdown menu item “Applicants” in the header does not have the correct role and value for “ARIA”. When navigating with the keyboard, the links in the hidden part are accessible but not visually visible. This results in a mismatch between keyboard focus and visual representation.
  • Search filters on the web pages “Research at Divisions”, “Study Quality and Development” are not available to screen reader users. The filtering functionality does not use the standard selection elements, which makes it difficult to understand when the filter is selected, and the selection functionality itself does not work properly.
  • Selecting a tab (e.g. on the “Structure” page – “Rector”, “Education”, “Research”, etc… ), each category is displayed as a “Link” and the user expects a new page to open. However, when the link is activated, the information at the bottom/side of the page changes but the screen reader focus stays in the same place, which may give the impression that the link is not working. The problem occurs on “Structure”, “Related Institutions”, “Honorary Members”, “Sustainability”, “R&D&I KTU”, “Study Quality and Development”, “Study Process” web pages
  • The button element is empty or has no text value:
    • Slider / Carousel control buttons (arrow icons) in the “Rectorate” section of the “About KTU” web page
    • Header icon in the mobile menu (Burger menu)
  • The iframe that displays maps in Google Maps does not have a title attribute on the “Research at Divisions”, “Lifelong Learning” and an Event pages.
  • Various web pages use the tabs component but lack appropriate ARIA roles and states. As a result, they may not be accessible to users of some assistive technologies.

The problem occurs on “Bachelor’s and Integrated studies” and “Medicinal Chemistry” (programme) web pages
  • Header button (icon in the mobile menu (Burger menu)) is empty or has no text value
