ZnO nanoparticles for new generation anti-reflective coatings and their optical property investigation

Project description:

During this project, new functional coatings of ZnO nanoparticles will be developed, which will reduce light reflection and absorb the harmful part of the UV spectrum. Such coatings have applications not only for various optical elements (lenses, sensor covers) but also for a wide range of applications (glasses, screens, windows). Existing anti-reflective coatings are still not effective enough for the full range of solar wavelengths and angles of incidence, making the work relevant internationally. During this project, new coatings of ZnO nanoparticles will be developed, which will reduce the reflection of different wavelengths falling at different angles and protect against the harmful part of the UV spectrum. The aim of this work is to form and study different coatings of ZnO nanoparticles and their optical properties.

Project is funded by EU Structural Funds according to the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for the European Union Funds’ Investments priority “Development of scientific competence of researchers, other researchers, students through practical scientific activities” under Measure No. 09.3.3-LMT-K-712.

Project results:

During the internship the student will study different coating methods of ZnO nanoparticles, determine the dependence of optical properties of coatings on coating thickness, density, coating parameters. The optical properties of ZnO nanoparticle coatings will be investigated: the part of light absorbed and reflected, the dependence of the spectrum on the angle of incidence, the absorption of the UV spectrum. The aim is to obtain a functional coating of ZnO nanoparticles on glass, which will increase the transmittance of the visible part of the light falling at different angles and reduce the transmittance of the UV part of the spectrum.
