Synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of novel fused heterocyclic systems (HetSYs)

Project no.: S-MIP-23-51

Project description:

The idea of the Project is to develop synthetic pathways to novel fused heterocyclic systems with advanced functional properties. The further investigation of the structure as well as physicochemical, optical, and biological properties of the synthesized compounds is expected to lead to the discovery of novel materials for biomedical applications, primarily photosensitizers with anticancer activity. The Project tasks are therefore formed to cover the following: synthesis of intermediate scaffolds from readily available starting compounds; synthesis and functionalization of target fused heterocyclic compounds including but not limited to 2H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]pyridines, 2H-dipyrazolo[1,5-a:4′,3′-c]pyridines, 2-phenylbenzimidazoles, 2-phenylbenzoxazoles, 2-phenylbenzothiazoles, 5-(het)arylindoles using novel organic synthesis methods; detailed and unambiguous structure analysis of novel fused heterocyclic compounds applying modern methods of spectroscopic, spectrometric, X-ray and elemental analysis; investigation of optical and biological properties of the compounds at Kaunas University of Technology and in collaboration with researchers at Palack? University in Olomouc.

Project funding:

Projects funded by the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL), Projects carried out by researchers’ teams

Project results:

The main outputs of this project will be summarized and published in peer-reviewed international journals included into the Thomson Reuters database Web of Science and presented at international conferences. We expect at least five publications, primarily in Q1 journals, and presentations at four field-related conferences in the course of three years.
