The idea of the project is to synthesize calcium silicate, 3CaO • 2SiO2, which hardens in the CO2 environment, from raw materials common in Lithuania but not yet used for this purpose – Karpėnai limestone, Anykščiai quartz sand, granite sawing waste and Kertupis clay. We are planning to study the influence of thermal synthesis conditions on the formation of the controlled structure and properties rankinite, to determinate the temperature and duration intervals of its stable existence. Concretes hardening in the CO2 environment will be produced from synthesized binder and sand, and the influence of the parameters of this environment on the mineral composition and mechanical properties of the products has been investigated. The technology is environmentally friendly and allows to solve several problems in a complex way: 1) to reduce ~ 200 °C the burning temperature of the binder; 2) the mixture of raw materials contains 1.8 times less CaO compared to the synthesis of Portland cement clinker, which will reduce CO2 emissions into the environment; 3) as products solidify in the CO2 environment, these greenhouse gases will be combined into inert CaCO3; 4) new, innovative products will be placed on the market.
