Research of Phase Conversions during Synthesis and Hydration of High Strength Sulfoalumoferrite Cements

Project no.: S-LB-2017-6

Project description:

The proposed novelty – specified composition fast curing high strength sulphoaluminate cements with predicted hydrate phase formation process, ensuring stable physical – mechanical properties of products and constructions. Scientific – technical level corresponds to world-class research in the area of fast curing high strength cements. Competitiveness of the product will be secured by significantly lower price of cement production, instead of expensive raw materials, using technogenous waste from Belarus and EU, as well as, stable physical – mechanical properties of the products and constructions. Manufacturing of this product will allow the development of innovative technologies of special purpose cements in Republics of Belarus and Lithuania.
The efforts of both groups will be united in process of developing environmentally friendly hydraulic binder material. The resulting belite-sulfoaluminate cement will satisfy the essential requirements in comparison with an already known level of technology. In many cases, it can be used as an alternative to ordinary Portland cement. This is important for several reasons: first of all, due to 100-150 °C lower clinker burning temperature, the energy consumption of hydraulic cement production will be lowered; second of all, due to lower amount of CaCO3 in the raw materials and lower fuel consumption, CO2 emission will be lowered by 25-30 %; and third, industrial technogenous waste will be utilized.

Project funding:

Intergovernmental programme administrated by Research Council of Lithuania: Lithuania–Belarus

Project results:

Qualitatively new findings of fast curing high strength sulphoalumoferite cement clinker mineral formation during their synthesis and phase transitions in cement rock hydration. At the same time, the thermodynamic calculations of the ongoing chemical reaction, theoretical substantiation of the conclusions and experimentally determined parameters will be carried out.
