In order to achieve the objectives of climate neutrality in the EU, photovoltaic (PV) systems are one of the main technologies for electricity generation from solar energy. Currently, both perovskite and silicon PV systems are efficient (~25%), but they require a thick layer (Si) and use rare (Te, In, Ga) or toxic materials (Cd, Pb) for synthesis. Inorganic chalcogenide compounds are an excellent alternative because they are widely available in nature, non-toxic, can absorb light over a wide range of wavelengths, and offer more diverse synthesis and cell fabrication procedures.
