The aim of the project is to create a prototype of the lower jaw motion recorder with the function of occlusal analysis. A wireless device based on the inertial-magnetic method, continuously recording jaw movement and tooth contact (occlusion) would open wide possibilities in the study of the physiological function and parafunctions of jaw movements. The device consists of a magnet attached to the upper dental arch and sensor electronics attached to the lower dental arch. Due to its unique design, without covering the occlusal surface, the recorder can be used for occlusal analysis (dynamics of jaw movements, amount and nature of tooth contacts); for the diagnosis of masticatory parafunctions, temporomandibular joint dysfunction; for the prevention of complications (tooth loss, dentures splitting, loss of implants).

Project results:
A prototype of a dynamic mandibular motion recorder was developed, giving it a configuration and technical characteristics suitable for intraoral operation. The operation of the recorder is based on the measurement of the magnetic field of a permanent magnet during the movement of a sensor consisting of two magnetometers. A two-magnetometer system adapted for intraoral use, with a 22 mm distance between the magnetometers, has been shown to be potentially resistant to and capable of compensating for the background external magnetic field. The dimensions of the developed sensor are 26 x 6.5 x 2 mm (without battery). The sensor is attached to the dental graves that do not cover the occlusal surface (modelled and manufactured individually). A software with a graphical user interface was developed, which allows the user to process, view and display the registered data visually, using 3D models of the patient’s teeth.
