The project focuses on developing and assessing simultaneous delamination and leaching technologies for Multilayer Composite Waste (MCW) to recover valuable materials. This initiative targets various types of MCW, including Waste Printed Circuit Boards (WPCB), Aluminum-containing Multilayer Flexible Packaging (MFPW) used in food and pharmacy, Waste Photovoltaic Modules (WPhM), and Waste Photovoltaic Cells (WPhC). The innovative process utilizes solvents and oxidizing solutions to efficiently separate and recover materials such as metals and non-metals, which can be used to manufacture new products. This approach is designed to enhance the recyclability of MCW and mitigate environmental issues associated with conventional waste disposal methods such as landfilling and incineration. By leveraging the expertises of the Laboratory of Materials Research and Testing (Lithuanian Energy Institute) and the Department of Environmental Technology (Kaunas University of Technology), the project aims to create a technologically advanced solution that promises significant environmental and economic benefits. This approach is poised to significantly improve waste management practices, addressing environmental concerns linked with traditional disposal methods and contributing to developing a sustainable circular economy.
