The project is initiated together with Žemųjų Šančių community and funded by the Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Active Citizens Fund. There are four partners in the project: Žemųjų Šančių community (lead partner), KTU, Vellenes fellesorganisasjon (VFO), Bodø Municipality. The aim of the project is to involve local community and experts of urban planning into collaborative creation of urban vision of Šančiai. Project activities began on September 24, 2020 and will continue until September 24, 2023. The project is funded by.
Various advanced methods will be used in the process:
• Creation of memory map by local people while using design oriented workshops with targeted age groups as catalysers for initialization of the process. The map aims at identification of valuable cultural heritage in bottom-up way and acts as a platform for sharing of memories and community building.
• Creation of present map based on sociotop map method. Sociotop map is an urban planning tool which allows involve people into urban planning process effectively while identifying local practices of common usage of public spaces and social values of urban territories.
• Creation of biotope map with focus on valuable natural resources and creation of ecological network of Šančiai.
• Creation of complex mathematical models of Šančiai territory based on mathematical graphs. Such models will allow to integrate the above mentioned maps, predict influence of possible transformations of urban structure on city functioning and will serve as integrative simulative background for Šančiai vission.
All four maps will be used as a background to discuss and model possible scenarios of Šančiai development while using design oriented thinking workshops and involving local community and other possible stakeholders (inhabitants, local businesses, property developers, urban planners, etc.).
