Fostering socio-academic inclusion, innovation and justice for refugee students (EGAL-I)

Project no.: 2025-1-FR01-KA220-HED-000356216

Project description:

Higher education institutions are encouraged to respond to the social and academic integration challenges faced by refugee students. Although opportunities for higher education have improved, many organizations lack structured approaches, cross-sectoral cooperation, and qualified academic staff to ensure meaningful integration and long-term resilience. The EGAL-I project addresses this problem by promoting collaboration between the academic community and society at large, as well as open innovation. The project aims not only to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to promote the social and academic integration of refugee students, but also to create a shared vision and strengthen the skills of higher education staff in areas related to social and academic integration through interdisciplinary and action-oriented learning. It also aims to implement measures for refugee students, combining them with impact assessment mechanisms, strengthening cross-sectoral synergies and resilience.

Project funding:

EU Erasmus+ programme

Project results:

The project involves conducting research, developing tools, creating an action plan, and preparing recommendations to help increase social and academic inclusion in higher education institutions. It will strengthen the institution’s capacity to support refugee students, promote cross-sectoral cooperation, improve staff competencies in the areas of inclusion and empowerment, and create sustainable and transferable models of practice. The project will contribute to the creation of more resilient and inclusive higher education systems in Europe.
