Project no.: S-MIP-23-62
One of the main problems of the world, as well as of Lithuania, is global warming, its change, which poses a number of different types of ecological threats: floods, heat waves, storms, fires, epidemics, etc. All this affects the health and safety of people, the quality of the living environment, affects the microclimate of public spaces and so on. However, how to avoid or reduce the negative effects of climate change is almost unexplored in the country so far.
This project provides the impact assessment of global and Baltic climate change on the country’s territory, its residential areas and their environment. The project envisages research on the relationship between urban development, construction, landscaping and climate change. Studies would assess how the urban structure of residential areas and the nature of the building (building intensity, building height, structures, etc.) can reduce the negative effects of the climate. The project anticipates the development of models for the urban structure and environmental formation of residential areas, taking into account possible different climate change scenarios.
On the basis on the results of the research, it is planned to submit proposals for the regulation of urban development of residential areas, targeted formation of urban structure, public spaces, as well as purposeful selection of construction, arrangement of greenery, etc. The research is intended to cover the entire territory of the country and the selected residential areas, which would be selected on the basis of the different climatic areas of the country, natural conditions.
