The EXIL project aims to improve the integration of displaced students in EU Higher Education Institutions.
Specific objectives of the project are:
• To understand the needs and constraints of displaced students;
• To document and disseminate best practices implemented by EU universities when welcoming them;
• To help EU HEIs to adapt their pedagogy;
• To help EU HEIs to provide adequate support and accompaniment;
• To raise awareness and continue the discussion in the EU regarding the role of HEIs during humanitarian crisis.
EXIL partners will survey the needs of displaced students, carry on research to document, and collect best practices. They will elaborate recommendations on the emergency and the short and long-term actions that HEIs can implement and create for an inclusive learning environment. A Special Interest Group will contribute as an advocate for the importance of welcoming displaced students with publications, podcasts and events that raise awareness and understanding of their situation and offers concrete recommendations for their inclusion.
Project funding:
The European Union programme Erasmus+
Project results:
1. A multi-country report surveying the needs, expectations and constraints of the displaced students;
2. A report presenting the best practices on how HEIs replied to the influx of displaced students;
3. 2 recommendation guides on pedagogy and support services to foster an inclusive environment for displaced students;
4. A dialogue on the inclusion of displaced students stimulated by a Special Interest Group, 6 national awareness events and 16 podcasts on displaced students‘ integration.
