Development of a joint master study programme “European Master in Particle Physics and Accelerator Technologies for Research and Industry”

Project no.: 101082399

Project description:

This Erasmus Mundus Design Measures project will facilitate the development of an integrated, world-class master’s level study program, “European Master in Particle Physics and Accelerator Technologies for Research and Industry”. The master’s program developed through this project will be implemented jointly by the higher-education institutions from Estonia (University of Tartu), Latvia (Riga Technical University) and Lithuania (Vilnius University, Kaunas University of Technology), and will aim to not only attract the brightest students from the region, but also to be highly competitive and appealing internationally to draw in talented students from all regions of the world. This project will develop a novel and unique-in-EHEA (European Higher Education Area) curriculum for a master’s study program, offering training in fundamental science of high-energy particle physics, applied science of accelerator physics and the use of modern engineering and manufacturing techniques in the development of accelerator technologies. The developed program will contribute to the diversification and attractiveness of the EHEA to foreign students. The expected outcome of this project is the development of the all the necessary joint mechanisms to allow for the implementation of this transnational master’s study program, including: joint procedures for student application, admission, selection and monitoring; joint rules and procedures for student examinations and performance evaluation; joint programme design and integrated teaching/training activities; common services offered to students; joint promotion and awareness- raising strategy; joint administrative and financial management by the partnership; a joint degree policy. Additionally, an international dissemination and advertising strategy for the proposed program will be developed. The planned program developed through this project will be a two-year master’s program corresponding to 120 ECTS.
